Innsbruck to Neuschwanstein Castle

We will be staying in Innsbruck one night and in Munich the next night before flying back to London. We will be traveling using our Eurail tickets. We would like to see Neuschwanstein Castle on our last day on the Continent. What would be the best way to get from Innsbruck to Neuschwanstein Castle? ...then back to Munich that night? Would it be better to go directly to Munich then backtrack to the Castle? Or is there another way to get there? Any help would be appreciated.

As Castle Neuschwanstein is located between Innsbruck and Munich I would recommend renting a car as it is a really nice drive.

Innsbruck - Fuessen:112 km - duration: 1h25 min.

Fuessen-Munich:132 km - duration: 1h45min.

Otherwise you would have to go to Munich and then to the castle by train and bus.

How do i get from Sud Bahnof to Hotel Kunsthof ? Pls advise

Hi

I will be arriving at Sud Bahnof and need to get to Hotel KUNSThof which is on Mühlfeldgasse 13.

Can someone pls advise the easiest way ? I am thinking of taking the local metro as I think taxis would be too expensive right ?

Easiest way via public transport is to take the U-1 uBahn ( subway ) from Sudtirolerplatz stop to Praterstern. single ride ticket 1,70 euro.

Then about a 5-10 minute walk to the hotel.

Sudtirolerplatz is very near to the Sudbahnhof - just follow signs .

You will want to take the U-1 in the direction toward the end station Leopoldau.

From Praterstern walk along Nordbahnhofstrasse- Mühlfeldgasse is the 2nd or 3rd street on the left.

I think a traffic light is on the corner and the streetcar 21 turns there also.

I would suggest that you buy a longer term ticket 24- 72 hours as you will need it staying at this hotel.

Neighborhood is not that great - not near to any tourist sights other than the Prater or to the Stadium for euro 2008.

Better hotels and better locations in vienna.

Taxi cost 10-12 euro perhaps depending on traffic.

Or from the Südbahnhof you can catch tram O which runs directly to Praterstern. Again it will cost euro 1.70

You probably refer to my posting to a question about bringing cash.

My answer was to use the Bankomat - ATM machines as they offer some of the best exchange rates, are also secure and very convenient.

Travelers checks are less useful in my opinion. Many places ( stores, restaurants etc. )no longer accept them. Some banks also -as they involve more paperwork.

Perhaps best place to cash your checks -

American Express has an office at Kärtnerstrasse 21 in Vienna. They can cash them for you.

This location is on a main shopping street in the center of Vienna between the State Opera and Stephansdom.

I%26#39;d like to add my two cents worth. The banks in Austria generally do not like handling travelers checks, though many will, and the banks that do will charge huge per-check fees. This was the situation ten years ago. It can only be worse now.

S Rail to airport...

Hi, is S2 or S7 does the route from Mitte to Airport Swechat? How much is the route from Mitte to airport? Is the S rail owned by OBB? and lastly to which train station of wien is train from bratislava arrives? Thanks.......

S7 is going from Wien Mitte (and other stations within Vienna) to the airport. The trip will cost you 3,4 Euro, unless you already have a valid ticket for Vienna (a daily ticket or 72-hour ticket, for example). In the latter case you only need an additional ticket at 1,70 for the part of the trip which is outside city-limits. S-Bahn is operated by OEBB. Trains from Bratislava arrive at Wien Suedbahnhof (Southern Station)

Is airport swechat the last stop from Mitte by S7? How long does the trip take and how is its frequency? Per 30minits,1hr? Lastly will the train vy crowded in a weekday afternoon?

Trains don%26#39;t always terminate at the airport, every second one goes on to %26#39;Wolfsthal%26#39;. When you see the refinery on the left and after you have passed the stop %26#39;Mannswörth%26#39;, you can slowly prepare your disembarkation.

Trains in the evening can be congested.

So for exactly which stop should i alight from the train and how much distance from the point of disembarkation to the airport? By foot or what?

You get off at the airport station, which is below the terminal (Flughafen Wien is the native name).

Graz to ...?

Hi,

I am going to Graz from USA for work in late June and thinking of staying an extra day. My initial plan was to visit Salzburg but seems it%26#39;ll take 4+ hours by train.

1. Is there a good bus connection between Graz and Salzburg?

2. How far is Salzburg airport from the city center?

3. Any suggestions regarding alternate destinations? The alternative I have in mind is Ljubljana. Will it be good for a day trip? I have already been to Vienna earlier this year and don%26#39;t want to revisit it so soon.

As an alternative you could visit the beautiful Styrian wine country - but for that I would recommend renting a car. You could visit the South West or the South East Styrian wine country.

It is sometimes called the %26quot;Styrian Tuscany%26quot;, with smooth hills, little village and wine estates, castles...and last but not least the home of the famous white horses of the Spanish Riding School — the Lipizzaner Stud — in West Styria.

Well, we don%26#39;t have buses running between major cities as it is the task of Austrian railways. Buses only feed to the railroads. Additionnally, the bus wouldn%26#39;t be faster! The way from Graz to Salzburg is mountainous forcing trains and motorised vehicles to ride along the valleys. Of course there are tunnels, but four hours aren%26#39;t that much. Austria is a small country but this doesn%26#39;t mean that you can walk between landmarks. Can%26#39;t yoo stay there for at least one night?

Prague / Vienna in end Aug/early Sept

I will be flying to Prague on 30th Aug and flying back from Bratislava on 4th Sept. We plan to spend 1.5 day on Prague with the remainder in Vienna. Is 3 days in Vienna too long ?

How will the weather be during this period ?

Please advise if anything needs to be altered in our itinery - any other city/country worth exploring - Linz, Baden, Brno ?

FYI, we reach Prague on 30th Aug 6 pm and depart Bratislava at 12.30 pm on 4th Sept

Ritz - three days in Vienna is definitely not too long and one and a half days in Prague is almost certainly too little! In the limited time you%26#39;ve got don%26#39;t even consider adding any other city or country!

Weather in Vienna (and Prague/Bratislava) will almost certainly be a bit warmer than in the UK. Rain can%26#39;t be ruled out, but it%26#39;s more likely to be showers or a thunderstorm rather than the persistent grey skies and drizzle we can get over here.

Recommendations for Vienna performances July 1 & 2

A friend and I will be in Vienna July 1 and 2. I just discovered we will be too late to see a performance in the State Opera House. Can anyone recommend a performance (music, opera, ballet, etc.) for us? Would love to see something in a quintessential Viennese setting.

Also, advice on the appropriate attire for such events would be appreciated.

I%26#39;ve done a bit more research and am thinking of booking tickets to one of these two performances:

1. Mozart Requiem at the Karlskirche, or

2. Concerts in Mozart%26#39;s House (a string quartet, website: http://www.mozarthaus.at/?page=1%26amp;lang=en).

I%26#39;m open to other suggestions, but would appreciate any opinions on these two options.
