Grand Circle Travel Barge River Cruise

We are thinking of booking a Danube River cruise through Grand Circle Travel cruises ( a barge through Budapest, Austria, and Czech Republic). Has anyone traveled with this company? Thank you for your reply!

Traveled with Grand Circle to Holland and Belgium this past May.

Ship was clean the rooms were fine, small but enough storage space and comfortable beds. The best part of the cruise were the ports and guided tours there. WE also used Grand Circle for a trip to the Scandavian countries had a wonderful time.

We ourselves ( wife %26amp; I ) are planning the Danube cruise in early Sept 2007. We are still gathering info, but everything seems very positive. In early Sept 2006, we and another couple took the Canadian Rockies Tour. It was wonderful. Grand Circle plans it well. As tour directors, or as they call them %26quot;Program Directors%26quot; they use local residents with a great backgroung in the country and in the area. The people they had on the Rockies Tour were very good. If that is any indication, then those people on the Danube shoud be good also.

My husband and I took this cruise in October and had a wonderful time. The boat was very nice (Adagio), the food was good but not exceptional, and the guides were terrific. (You%26#39;re lucky if you get Istvan or Michal. They%26#39;re very funny, and quite knowledgeable.)

You can choose which outings you want to go on, and I don%26#39;t really recommend any of the optional ones except maybe Strasbourg. The one in Vienna (a concert) was strictly for tourists and really lame. Better to book your own tickets at a real concert. We loved the flexibility, and took many side-trips on our own. Find out what time the boat leaves the dock so you can attend concerts or plays but be back on time for the trip to the next town.

The hotel in Prague is disappointing. Too far away from city center and the staff are surly. You also find surly waiters and waitresses at the brewery you visit on the way to Prague. Czechs sure aren%26#39;t happy people.

One thing to note: these tours are intended for older travellers -- mostly in their 70s and 80s. My husband and I were a little young for the trip, so we tended to go off on our own when we wanted to do something a little more taxing, like climb up a hill to see a castle. We really enjoyed speaking to our tourmates, however, because so many of them had travelled extensively throughout the world, and they came from varied and interesting walks of life.

I%26#39;d recommend this trip to anyone interested in seeing Budapest (a very pleasant surprise!), Bratislava (which Michal insists has the most beautiful women in the world), Vienna, and Prague.

If you go, give Michal and Istvan hugs for me.
