Hi,
Me and my wife are planning a 4 day vacation in Innsbruck and Salzburg in July.
We are planning 2 days in Salzburg and 2 days in and around Innsbruck. We are not interested in the castles, museums, art-galleries etc. but would like some breathtaking mountain scenes and natural beauty.
We are planning to goto the Ice caves and salt mines near Salzburg and also visit Utenburg in the first 2 days.
We will be going around in Innsbruck and surrounding areas, taking some walking trails and taking a day trip to Mittenwald before returning back.
Could anyone suggest if this is nice plan or is there something which we need to change in order to make our trip even better!
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Cheers,
Pushkar.

Sounds great as you are not primarily interested in the cities stated. So you can leave them behind for some great nature experience. Innsbruck itself is surround by high mountains giving this place a unique view.
As you don%26#39;t have any time for the cities you will be accomodated in, why don%26#39;t you stay in the villages you go to? Just imagine the moment in the morning you will open the window and a fresh breeze from a lake with a mountainous background streams in....

Thanks Mickey for your views.
Could you suggest some places to stay in villages - keeping in mind we will be using public transportation!

Hallstatt by Lake Hallstatt, where a salt mine is located. Hallstatt is the neighbouring village of Obertraun, where the great ice cave is. Hallstatt and Obertraun possess a train station - from Hallstatt you could also take the boat to Obertraun.
Seefeld or Mittenwald have got train access to and from Innsbruck without transfers.

Only downside is that the train/bus ride from Hallstatt to Seefeld takes more than five hours as the train doesn%26#39;t take the direct way to the West.

Thank You Mikey for your wonderful comments!

I%26#39;d put in a day in Salzburg and the second in the Salzkammergut (Hallstadt at its far end). If you can skip Hohensalzburg - jeeez, who can? - and Hellbrunn Castle, you have alternatives. If going by car or bus, arrange a trip to Berchtesgaden, or to St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee and take the gondola (Jenner) or the Schafbergbahn up the local attraction, respectively.
In the Innsbruck area, the Berg Isl gondola and a stay in the picturesque Stubai Valley are my preferences. In fact, I%26#39;d stay in the Stubai (largest town is Neustift) because there you have all the breathtaking scenery, the glacier close by and outstanding lodging all in one place!
