The Consulting Group Mercer yearly surveys world cities for quality of life.
Some of the standards include such things as Traffic, congestion, air quality ,personal safety etc.
items important to tourists also.
2008 results show that Vienna is tied with Geneva for the #2 place in the world.
#1 was Zurich

Self-praise is disgrace! :-)
|||
Presumably the survey was done before Euro 2008 started!!
|||
I didn%26#39;t realize that parking was plentiful and the air so clean there (or were these not relevant criteria in this survey?)
|||
I find the Viennese air vastly superior to the stinky oxygen-depleted soup I breath in the Asthma Capital of the World, swampy Britain. And who needs parking when you have such a fabulous public transport network? Forget Zurich, Vienna would be my #1!
|||
Well, parking is probably not the most important feature a city should provide.
The air in Vienna is not the cleanest for sure, but cleaner than in many other cities.

Self praise - a disgrace? - merely passing on information widely reported in Vienna.
Much Vienna media has reported this factual information as researched by a well respected consuling firm. No one in Vienna commissioned the study - merely reported results.
Even the Official City of Vienna website gave this information with justified pride.
I should also add the city website ( www.wien.gv.at ) recently reported on a study made in Australia ranking Vienna in the top ten in the worlds top University cities.

I would tend to agree with that survey! I lived in Vienna 24 years ago, and only managed to just get back there last week, and by golly, the place has gotten even better! The architecture alone is to die for...the Hofburg, the mirror museums...and all that, even with all the banners for Euro 2008!
The Prater has gotten rally quiet though for some weird reason, but I love it anyway!
As a city of music, without sounding too cliched, it really is a must to visit! I attended the Hofburg Orchestra and it was brilliant!
The transport system is first class, the U-bahn so convenient, and the trams must be preserved for posterity alone. I don%26#39;t particularly like the new trams that much, but the old ones are exactly the same as I remember from 24 years ago. They%26#39;re classic!
Driving down the Ring Road puts Paris to shame. There is more culture in Vienna than any other city I have ever been to.
Immer wieder, immer wieder, immer wieder Osterreich!!
