Hello - We%26#39;ll be arriving at the Vienna airport around 9:30am on Monday, June 23. We%26#39;ll then be needing to catch a train to Budapest. There are 6 people in our group. I%26#39;m a little hesitant to buy train tickets ahead of time in case our flight isn%26#39;t on time. Do we run the risk of the train being full? There are trains from Westbahnhof at 10:40am, 11:52 and 12:40. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I don%26#39;t believe I would be concerned with the train being full. I have used the trains extensively and never found that to be a problem in 1st or 2nd class. I%26#39;ve been on a couple that were crowded. Also wanted to point out that you can catch the bus from the airport to Westbanhof for 6 Euros. If it%26#39;s full, use the CAT train to Wein Mitte and catch the Underground from there. 9 Euros that way.

The 9 euros only covers the CAT. For the underground you need an extra 1.70 euro ticket which you can purchase at the CAT statiuon at the airport. You can book the CAT online and save one euro:

You can also catch the suburban train from the airport S2 which leaves from the platform next to the CAT. This costs 3.40 euros including the underground and takes 8 minutes longer than the CAT.

There are two possibilities:
Direct bus from the airport to Budapest:
eurolines.at/fahrplan/…6000_Budapest7.pdf
or the bus/train combination via Westbahnhof or other chaning points:

Usually a ticket is valid for any train within some days or weeks, you also shoud get a group discount. If you feel better, you can buy a seat reservation in advance (seat reservation and ticket are two different things).

I just realized that we%26#39;ll be trying to get into and out of Vienna during Euro Cup 2008. Will that make a difference as to how full the trains are to Budapest?
Thanks!
