24hrs in Vienna! Where to stay!!

My husband and I will be flying into Vienna for 24hrs!! Can anyone suggest whether we stay in a hotel at the airport or in the city? How far is the airport by train to the city?

Any recommendations on a good 3-4 star hotel in the area!!?? We want to do some sightseeing and eating lots of lovely austrian food...any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

The travel time between Vienna City Centre and Airport by train varies from 16 minutes to 24 minuts depending on the type of train you take. The CAT, a privately operated express train for 9€/adult departs from Wien-Mitte every 30 minutes, is very useful if you wanna check-in (depending on airline!!) your luggage right in Vienna in order to have more time without your bags before heading to airport.

You can also opt for the regional train of Austrian Railways for 3.40€/adult that takes approx. 8 minutes more than the express. Departures every 30 minutes from Wien-Mitte (and other stops in Vienna)

Hotel(s) at the airport or nearby are mostly expensive, so you can probably have a better room in the city. Please use the search button to investigate accomodation recommendations.

No contest - I%26#39;d definitely stay in town. There is only really one decent hotel at the airport, but much more choice in town. The €3.40 fare Mikey mentions will also allow you to continue on public transport from the train station (Wien Mitte) to any part of the city.

You can search for a room on TripAdvisor or use the Vienna tourist board site:

Thanks so much for your help!! We have decided to stay at the Lucia hotel as it was highly rated by travellers.

Any suggestions on an area with a fun adn lively atmosphere with shops and cafes? And what is the best Austrian beer and where do I find it?!! lol!

Where is the Lucia hotel?

Best beer is relative! I personally like Stiegl (from Salzburg), Hirter (from Carinthia), Budweiser (from the Czech Republic), Ottakringer (Wien) etc.

Hotel Lucia looks nice, but is quite far off the center of Vienna. However, the underground line U3 (your hotel is 5-10 minutes walk from Johnstrasse station) offers a good connection (10 minutes) to the center as well as to the Wien Mitte railway station, where the trains for the airport arrive and leave.

Given the location of your hotel, a 24-hour ticket for the public transport will most likely pay off. If you get it on the airport (from the machines) and validate it right away, you only need a supplemental 1,70 ticket to get into Vienna using the S-Bahn.

For sightseeing I recommend to explore the 1. district and the Ringstrasse. Schönbrunn palace with it%26#39;s gardens is relatively close to your hotel, but it will be tough to accomodate that in your tight schedule.

A great place for dinner relatively close to your hotel would be Vikerl%26#39;s Lokal on Würffelgasse 4 in 15th district, but probably you%26#39;d better stay in the center for dinner - there are plenty of nice places there.
