Austria Itinerary - Feedback Welcome

My family (parents and 3 adult children) will be arriving in Vienna from Prague in the later afternoon on 27 July. What event could we attend that evening? One of the family members will be leaving on 29 July and he would like to see an opera or concert (and I know this is the wrong time of year, but that%26#39;s all we have to work with).

On 28 July, we will visit the Hofburg Palace, the Treasury, the Crypt, and St. Stephen%26#39;s Cathedral. Could we see a performance on this night?

On 29 July, we will visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum. What should we do after this? We would have really liked to see the Lipizzaners, but they are not even practicing in Vienna during July.

On 30 July, we leave Vienna for Salzburg. We plan to stop in Melk and possibly Krems during the drive between the cities. Is there some place that would be really great to stop as well? We enjoy art and castles and history.

On 31 July, we will tour the Old Town of Salzburg, see the Fortress, and the Mozart houses. Is there a concert we should attend while in Salzburg?

On 1 August, we will leave for Innsbruck and stop in Werfen to see the ice caves (I know it is out of the way, but we would like to go). The rest of the day, we will explore Innsbruck.

On 2 August, we will leave Innsbruck and do the luge in Reutte before heading to Germany.

On July 29th you could visit the Schoenbrunn Castle -they also have a special kids museum and a very nice zoo nearby:

On 30 July:

There is nothing much to see in krems in my opinion, but the Abbey of Melk is worth visiting.

I would also stop in Gmunden at lake Traunsee - it is located close to Salzburg in the famous Salzkammergut lake district. The lake and the view of the mountains is just awesome and there is an old castle in the lake which can be visited via a bridge.

On 1 August:

This is a tight schedule if you want to visit the ice caves, drive to Innsbruck and then explore the city.

Can anyone else give me some pointers? I%26#39;d really like some help with seeing a concert or opera in Vienna on 27 or 28 July.

Bumping this again...

I would skip Krems and visit Dürnstein instead. Get to Dürnstein early so you can climb up to the ruins of the castle that held Richard the Lionhearted after he was captured on his return to England from the Crusades. Nice play to enjoy a glass of wine and lunch at the bottom of the footpath.

Unfortunately you visit Vienna at a poor time for good music due to vactions.

One alternative -

the Seefestspiele Mörbisch performs on the 27th.

This is an open air venue for about 6000 people - well located on a large lake-

Very famous here -

this year , they perform the Operetta Weisses Rössl - always a fantastic spectacle.

You can take a bus tour there - about 1 hour from Vienna
