Booze

What are the best alcoholic drinks in Austria?

|||

I dont know but I%26#39;m sure you will find out!!!

Funny topic - you will be treated to a large variety of alcohol there, so you%26#39;ll have to sample a lot to find your poison.

High proof:

Local favorites - Obstler Schnaps (made with a concoction of herbs and fruit, but usually more flavorful than standard Schnaps)

Slivovitz - plum brandy with great flavor; mixes well with Coke

Schnaps - clear and deadly; usually no flavor, also called Sauhäuterner in local dialect (you have got to have a %26#39;pig skin%26#39; to handle the strong stuff)

Marillenschnaps (also called Barack - but not Obama) probably from its Hungarian roots; very tasty

Kranebitter - favorite drink of hunters; its gin

Low proof:

Best beers (and there will be a debate over this)

Salzburg%26#39;s finest - Stieglbräu

Zipfer

In Vienna it%26#39;s Gösser, in Graz Reininghaus, and a hundred other beers of a more local renown

Lower still : Radler and low-alcohol beers

Wine:

The standard answer is Grüner Veltliner grape, but since I can%26#39;t stand the stuff, I refer you to other Austrian wines: Müller Thurgau and Muskat from the Steiermark, Traminer from Tirol, and a large selection of outstanding Spätlese Rieslings from Burgenland.

Had enough? Have someone drive you home . . .
