Hi, Can anyone shed a little light on christmas markets around Germany, Switzerland and Austria?
I%26#39;ll be travelling around in December with a Christmas Market agenda.
Love to hear from anyone who can recommend their favourite and why.
Also Just wondering are the markets more a day or night event; and are the items mostly authenitic (ie not made in china stuff you can buy everywhere)
Many thanks - I can%26#39;t wait to get there! Snowy

As the temperature in Vienna tops 30°C, a talk about Christmas markets could cool me down.
Almost every city has got its Christmas market(s). In Vienna the most famous is the one in front of the city hall. Actually these markets are also named %26quot;Christkindlmarkt%26quot;, because here the %26quot;Christkind%26quot; brings the gifts and not Santa Claus.
The atmosphere is great especially when snow covers the roofs and the tall Christmas tree. But as snow has become a rare occurrence in Vienna%26#39;s City Centre, don%26#39;t expect it. There are also markets in the %26quot;Spittelberg%26quot; area, in front of Schönbrunn Palace, between the two museums at the ring street and of course in the 1st district. Latter ones are usually smaller as the space is limited there.
Well, I have never purchased anything from the booths as the prices are pretty high and the selection not my taste. Most visitors prefer the mulled wine......
