I have 5 days, I would like to see the most important and most beautiful places, probably by train. I am not too concerned with shopping. I would welcome sugesstions from people about the best way to go about this and some suggestions about good not too expensive charming places to stay. Bed and breakfast places are fine.Thank you all in advance.

Well, what is beautiful and important is subject to someone%26#39;s taste. Some prefer Vienna, others Prague and the rest Salzburg as it is much smaller. I am always amazed that people don%26#39;t know where to go as I always have made a decision very quickly according to information I was able to obtain. At least everybody makes a subconcious selection.
If you go for Vienna, you could easily do Salzburg as sidetrip. Trains only need at least 2h40min and depart quite often, hence a day trip is possible.
