Hi Everyone
Just returned from a week in Salzburg and thought I%26#39;d share this recommendation for a trip.
The Jenner mountain sits above Berchtesgaden and Konigsee just over the border in Bavaria. We drove there in around 40 minutes from Salzburg. It%26#39;s possible to get there by bus and Berchtesgaden is easily reached from Salzburg by local train and then the bus to Konigsee. We took the little cable car up to the top of the Jenner and were completely stunned by the scenery and views from the top. For more information go to:
http://www.jennerbahn.de/willkommen.asp
The cable car leaves from beside the car park at Konigsee and is well signposted (Jenner Seilbahn). It cost almost 20 Euros each to go to the very top but it was well worth it. I think family tickets are available. The gondolas are small, just big enough for two people so you are not squashed into a larger car with lots of people. We found this a wonderful experience as we silently ascended the mountain, the views becoming more beautiful every minute. There is a middle station that you can get off at if you want to do some walking but it is well worth continuing to the top. There is a restaurant up there with a sun terrace and a little shop. In all it took about 30 minutes to get to the top but you%26#39;re so enthralled with the view and tranquility that this is not a problem.
Once at the top there is a further short walk to the summit. It was not too steep until the very end but the viewing platform is just below the steep, rocky part so you can see the views without standing on the very top. Berchtesgaden, Konigsee and all the surrounding mountains are visible (also the Eagles nest can be seen). Most people up there were doing serious walking but we comfortably walked to the summit in strong sandals. Obviously walking shoes would have allowed us to explore the paths further but are not necessary just to reach the stunning views.
This is one of the best excursions I%26#39;ve ever made from Salzburg and recommend it to anyone who loves mountain scenery.

Hi Liz, thanks so much for that info. Leaving on 29 June (and cant wait obviously), had already planned to do Berchtesgaden, but will def add that to our Must Do list. Want to give our Aussie children a varied sense of Europe.
Have you experienced the Werfen Ice Caves? Thought that would be great to see also!
Cheers, Andrea

Hi Liz. Thanks so much for that detailed information. I will print this out and take it with me in September. The views are incredible.

Hi Liz and welcome back. So glad you went to Jenner Mountain. This has long been a favorite of hubby and myself and it is exactly as she described. It is not to be missed if you are in the Kongisee area. It%26#39;s a real plus that it is so close to Salzburg.

Hi,
Is the view up at Mount Jenner somewhat similar to those of Eagle%26#39;s Nest?
|||
Yes, almost identical. If anything you might have a better view of the lake (Konigsee)from the Jenner. If you%26#39;d like to see some photos I took from the top send me your email address in a private message and I%26#39;ll email them to you :-)

Hiya LizR
We are going to Innsbruck area end of August and this sounds excellent, as I am researching places to drive too, could I ask though:-
My wife is not to hot on very high heights as in cable cars although she will go on them - one she was ok on is the one in Rudesheim (Rhein),it being about 100ft off ground all the way up to top (she just about coped with that). Is this one very high off ground?

Hello, Rhyn,
With the Jenner cable car it follows the contours of the mountain closely so you are not too far off the ground at all. The Jenner is high but does not have sheer cliff faces so the cable car does not straddle some huge ravine so I think your wife would be quite comfy with that. I should mention that the cable cars are small, just for two or three people. At first I didn%26#39;t know if I%26#39;d like this but once we got going it was fantastic because there was just my husband and me in it so we could see 360 degrees of the view. I took some photos on the way up which would give you a good idea of what it%26#39;s like. If you%26#39;d like to see them send me your email address in a private message and I%26#39;ll email them to you. I%26#39;ve sent quite a few photos out to other forum members this week :-)

Hiya LizR
Thank you very much for the reply and I have told my wife and with a wry smile on her face - she said OK as long as it is like the Rudesheim one........... :-)
So this will take care of one of our days there.
Cheers again (I have supplied email address for the pics - again very good of you to do this)
All the best

OK - I will verify what Liz said about the Jenner. I have taken it 3 times and I am very much afraid of heights and I did fine. I also have taken the Rudesheim cable and it is a good comparison. She will be so enthralled with the views she won%26#39;t even think about it.
