Innsbruck to Chur by Eurail?

Hi, we are going for a week%26#39;s cycling around Fugen / Innsbruck in late September 08. We would like to take the train from Innsbruck to Chur in Switzerland and wonder if its covered by the Eurail Global Pass. (We have already established that we are best with this pass for the rest of our journey). Thanks.

Doesn%26#39;t the pass state the countries covered? At least the name sounds as it would be okay.

%26quot;Eurail%26quot; is a word that does not exist here in Europe.

But a global pass should cover all nations, at least I it sounds like. Also these %26quot;Eurail%26quot; passes can not be bought here in Europe, so they are not very well known.

Innsbruck-Chur is € 38,20 oneway, 2nd class.

From your post I understand your pass covers travel in Austia. If Switzerland is excluded you%26#39;d only need to purchase tickets from border crossing point to Chur...and that would not be expensive as it%26#39;s not that far. From Innsbruck you%26#39;d normally cross the border by rail at Buchs S.G.

There are direct services from Innsbruck to Zurich every 4 hrs or so - you%26#39;d change at Sargans for Chur. For most other times you%26#39;d take a train headed for Bregenz and change at Feldkirch, Buchs S.G. and Sargans.

Yes... thats the way we%26#39;ll be going. All I need to know is if any of the Austrian train lines are run by private companies...because private trains are not covered.

The direct trains from Innsbuck to Zurich are operated by OBB; same applies for Innsbruck / Bregenz route which would take you as far as Feldkirch if you use an indirect service.

I%26#39;m not sure about the local trains between Feldkirch and Buchs S.G. (I%26#39;ve travelled on them and there%26#39;s sometimes only 1 carriage). This section is very short and a single ticket would probably be only around 3 euros.

When I%26#39;ve bought through single tickets for this route, either from OBB in Innsbruck or SBB in Zurich they allow holder to use any service. On this basis it is most likely that your Eurail passes will take you right to the Swiss border regardless of which train you board.

All trains in Austria, except of very few local lines which tourists probably won%26#39;t use are run by the national austrian railways ÖBB.
