hi vertical

you posted a reply not to bring travelers cheques we are coming from canada and have perchased euro american express travelers checks is there a real problem cashing them do not banks honor them

You probably refer to my posting to a question about bringing cash.

My answer was to use the Bankomat - ATM machines as they offer some of the best exchange rates, are also secure and very convenient.

Travelers checks are less useful in my opinion. Many places ( stores, restaurants etc. )no longer accept them. Some banks also -as they involve more paperwork.

Perhaps best place to cash your checks -

American Express has an office at Kärtnerstrasse 21 in Vienna. They can cash them for you.

This location is on a main shopping street in the center of Vienna between the State Opera and Stephansdom.

thanks for your reply

does this mean in rural austria they would be hard to cash at banks/

I%26#39;d like to add my two cents worth. The banks in Austria generally do not like handling travelers checks, though many will, and the banks that do will charge huge per-check fees. This was the situation ten years ago. It can only be worse now.
