We booked a car through the website for our trip last week, and were delighted to be met at the airport after our transatlantic flight by a driver holding up our name on a card. He drove us to our hotel downtown for 28E. That was a much better deal than the cab we took back to the airport- we went to catch the Airport Bus at Sudbahnhof, but the bus was late (something we never expected!) and there were quite a few people waiting. We became anxious about getting to the airport on time, so I asked a taxi driver what the fare would be to the airport and he said %26quot;oh, about 30-35E.%26quot; We took the cab, and the fare was actually 39.80E (before tip.) Sorry I didnt%26#39; book Airport Driver for the trip instead.

Although the taxi cabs are basically very comfortable and the drivers mostly helpful and polite, I never take a taxi between my apartment and the airport. It is really expensive and too much for my taste. Some years ago I returned from Bangkok with a cold and the train I needed to take had just departed, so I just got in a taxi cab and finally paid 30€ for a 15 minutes ride (it was Saturday morning so no traffic...). The train would have cost 1€ (because of my annual pass of public transport and a discount card of ÖBB). Normal fare is now 3.40€.

What website did you book through. Would you mind sharing I am about to go to Vienna and only car service I can find costs 21E per person (for the two of us).

Thanks, guess I should have figured from the title of the post....

%26gt;We took the cab, and the fare was actually 39.80E (before tip.)
Unless it was an truly excellent service, it would be price before tip = price after tip.
A tip is a %26quot;thank you%26quot; for above average service, not an inofficial tax.

I would give at least a small tip unless you have had a real bad experience (no assistance, impolite etc.).

These dedicated transfer services are always cheper than the taxis you will find outside the Arrivals Hall. In additio , they greet you at the exit from baggage claim and assist with luggage to the auto nearby.
Several services available .
www.airportdriver.at
Including the one mentioned above and C and K also.
www.ck-airportservice.at
also airportservice.at
I use airport driver and Cand K often with good service.
prices for all are about the same
just be certain to book 24 hours in advance.
If you forget to do this several firms - Cand K and Airport Driver have desks in the Arrivals Hall just opposite the exit from baggage claim- you pay a few 2-3 euro more without a reservation but still cheaper than a regular taxi.
