vienna to Prague with a driver

Does anyone know of a driver from Vienna to Prague who can make a stop[ in Brno where my mom was born. Must speak little English and understand the history of that area.

Although you explicitly requested information about a personal driver, I%26#39;d like to inform you that the train from Vienna to Prague calls at Brno station. As Brno is a larger city, the station will feature baggage storage. Or if you desire you can make a enjoyable daytrip from Vienna to Brno, as the travel duration is only 100 minutes. A guide could eventually be found in the Brno forum.

Brno is a fantastic place - if you send me a PM I can possibly sort out a guide for you, or answer any questions you may have about the city. I have helped out a couple of other people on these forums with similar requests.

Here is something to look at in the meantime: www.brno.cz/index.php?lan=en%26nav01=2222

As the above poster said, the train from Vienna to Prague stops there and the station is (at least until they build the new one) bang in the city centre.

I would love to have a guide in Brno..someone who knows the Jewish history also..my husband and I have two children with us ages 11 and twelve. I would like to find the building where she gre up and show them my heritage. If you could help me find a guide there it would be wonderful and please tell me costs and times. Elizabeth

The address of the one house is No. 816 at Stara Street in Brno.

The other adress give in this letter is No. 42 or 46 at Na Ponavce..do you know where that is?

Sorry - tripadvisor didn%26#39;t let me know that you had posted a reply.

I do indeed know where these streets are - Stara is off Bratislavska Street in the Zabrdovice district. Today it is a bit run down and is in the area where the Roma gypsy population has centred, but recently there have been efforts to regenerate the area.

Na Ponavce is now known as Vlhká Ulice (translated as %26#39;Damp Street%26#39;), which is behind the current railway station - it is probably called this as when the area was being built up, the Ponavka stream was channelled underground, thereby renering it damp, I suppose :) - again this area is due for regeneration, so now is the time to see it before they build executive housing on it.

You can look at it on www.mapy.cz - just enter %26#39;stara ulice Brno%26#39; or %26#39;vlhka ulice brno%26#39; and an arrow will point at it. For a bird%26#39;s eye photo view, click on the %26#39;fotomapa%26#39; button.

I suppose this thread can remain in the Vienna forum, as Brno has more in common with Vienna than with anywhere else!

Hope this helps!

Feel free to send me a private message and I%26#39;ll give you my e-mail address if you require any more information.

Actually the former Na Ponavce street is now split into three sections, which all follow the same route of the underground Ponavka stream - the other sections are now known as Ponávka Ulice and Příkop, both of which have been extensively developed - Příkop Street is now taken up almost entirely by a large business centre http://www.officehouse.cz/en/brno-ibc-prikop.

This is in the near vicinity of Stara , which runs parallel.
