Closest countries to Salzburg and Zell Am See

We are going to Salzburg and Zell Am see each for 4 nights and wanted to make use of the neighbouring countries.

Can you please assist us on what is the closest place to visit when were are in Salzburg and Zell Am See for a day.

We want to go to a place that is not more than 3 hrs away so that we can come back in the evening :)

You could go to Munich and Castle Neuschwanstein in Germany.

Salzburg to Munich by train is a simple and worthwhile trip, the historic part of Munich is very nice. Take U Ban to Marienplatz. It%26#39;s 2 stops from central station.
