hiking

Any suggestions for beautiful uncrowded hiking areas in Tirol or Hohe Tauern national parks plus inexpensive places to stay?

I am not a hiker, but I doubt that the paths in the mountains are %26quot;crowded%26quot;.

I spend some time in the mountains- really like the Zillertal in Tirol summer and winter.

For hiking - many hundreds ( 400 Kilometers + )of well marked and varied trails.

many do not know about the Naturpark Zillertal Alpen- a beautiful and preserved natural area without lifts to spoil the look of nice country mountains- ( www.naturpark-zillertal.at)also nearby the Hintertux Glacier area.

Good small towns to stay include Finkenberg Lanersbach and the little place of Ginzling.

Finkenberg - a nice hotel single with wC and shower Half pension ( breakfast and evening meal inclusive 45- 48 euro.

Bus stop across the street - sLift into the tops of mountain 250 meters away- supermarket nearby.

Owned by same family ( the Troppmairs )for 150 years + good food and friendly-

www.finkenberg.at

great central point for many hiking alternatives.

Ginzling Immediately next to the Park- small village -

www.ginzling.at

In Ginzling you can stay inexpensively and still nice places

usually full but look as it is good

Schwarzenstein

32 euro half board .

www.schwarzenstein-ginzling.at

also Alpenland Pension in Ginzling less then 30 euro including breakfast -

nice hiking in all directions

a nice hut in the mountains - the Berlinerhütte

Most towns will offer a day of guided hiking to guests also-

I usually do not do this as I like my own pace and time.

The Naturpark offers great hiking and views. Without lifts and in a small valley - much fewer people.

In many places- people ( hikers)often take a lift from a bigger town to the top of the mountain.- and wander not too far from this top base - yes it can get somewhat crowded in top season-

This area ( upper Zillertal ) offers so many routes impossible to do it all but you have great choices for all levels and varied terrain.

Zilertal- less than 2 hours from Munich- 1 from Innsbruck- easy bus and train connections-

just check their websites.
