Recently back from Vienna, had a fabulous trip and enjoyed every single bit of Austrian culture there was to be had. Unfortunately, had a run-in with a Tabak/cigarette store keeper at the Prater. I asked for the wrong type of cigarettes in my poor German and got the strong ones instead of the lights. When I asked him to change them, he started complaining and when I asked why it was such a big problem for him, he started shouting. He said my poor German had nothing to do with me asking for the wrong type of cigarettes (he has a point there!) but I didn%26#39;t really see the necessity for harassing a tourist for something so minor. Anyway, which officials might I write to, to voice my annoyance, and would writing in English be considered impolite and presumptive? Thanks.

Perhaps best to contact the Prater directly
Wiener Praterverband
Prater 9
A-1020
Vienna
Austria.
They have been trying to do much to improve their image and the Prater itself , including work by a master planner. Unfortunately it is not possible to have everything as it should be. To write in english should not be a problem.
or you can go to their website - www.prater.at
it is possible to e-mail them from that site.
click on Kontakt at the top of the page.
Happy that you enjoyed your time in Vienna- return again soon!

Well, I really feel sorry but you always meet impolite and unfriendly people. I would also support a complaint if there was an appropriate department processing it seriously and thoroughly.
You could file a complaint to the %26#39;Praterverband%26#39;, an institution that runs and develops the Prater.
info@wiener-prater.at
But your complaint will not change anything.....

Thanks Mikey and Vertical.
That%26#39;ll help greatly. I lived in Vienna 24 years ago and had a fabulous stay, and I had a wonderful trip this time round. Shame about the nasty shop owner, as I was proposing to my fiancee that day!! I wanted to do it on the top of the Riesenrad as I had such fond memories of the place from when I was much younger!
Overall, I couldn%26#39;t have met nicer people than the Austrians. You guys rock!
|||
Hope that the proposal went well.
Do not wait 24 years to return !

Thsnks Vertical, the proposal went very well and she said yes at the top of the Riesenrad. I have written to the Prater authorities, and thanks again for all your help. It%26#39;s a magical city and the fiancee loved it to bits. We had just arrived from Budapest and she felt that VIenna was the most beautiful city she had ever been to. You guys are very lucky living there. And the Euro2008 couldn%26#39;t have been better run!

Perhaps you return for a honeymoon time ?
Euro 2008- not over yet- we see what happens in the next busy days.
