Hi all,
A group of us are going to Prague (4N) - Cesky Krumlov (2N) - Salzburg (2N) - Vienna (3N) in Mid July. We will need some advice to see how feasible is our trip. We would like to visit the following places and we welcome more suggestions to the attractions.
Prague:
Karlovy Vary (Day Trip)
Kuta Hora (Half day trip)
Prague City centre
Cesky Krumlov:
Suggestions??
We will be going to Cesky Budejovice for a few hours when travelling from CK to Salzburg since the train will stop by there.
Salezburg:
Ice cave in Werfen (Day trip)
Hallstatt (Half day trip??)
Salt mine??
Salz kammergut??
Eagle%26#39;s nest (Half day trip)
Vienna:
Suggestions??
I think our focus is on the scenic views, mountains, lake and perhaps a few interesting cathedral, churches but hopefully no museums.
Any suggestions will help. Thanks!!
Oh by the way, I have seen the forum for Salzburg and there are people saying that the accomodation in Salzburg itself is expensive, any suggestions for cheaper accomdation?? Perhaps a little outside of Salzburg??
Thanks again.

You got a pretty full plate here - Prague 4 nights? I hope that includes side excursions to Karlovy Vary (pretty far west) and Kutna Hora (a short hop east). The latter is a mining town best known for the St. Barbara church, but not much else. I%26#39;d dial in a visit to Karlstejn Castle, if you are headed for Karlsbad anyway.
Ceske Budejovice/Budweis is worth a stop, at least. While it%26#39;s the industrial center of Southern Bohemia, its town square is extraordinary, as is the view from the Black Church steeple. Nearby, at Hluboka nad Vltavla, a replica Windsor castle was built in the 1800s that is really an exotic jewel.
Cesky Krumlov/Krumau - two nights will give you lots of time to explore. The town%26#39;s sights can be covered in one day. Southern Bohemia is full of pretty castles, because the area was saved the ravages of war. By train you will get to see some of them only from afar.
I%26#39;d take the train to Linz from Budweis, if you are going to Salzburg next. Of course, if going to Vienna, then take the direct train.
For the life of me I don%26#39;t understand why so many tourists want to find lodging in Salzburg proper, what with limited inexpensive accommodations. There are any number of towns around the vicinity that will offer better lodging only a bus ride away. One I can recommend is the Gschirnwirt in Eugendorf, about 10 mi. north. (www.gschirn.at) I am sure there are others with similar amenities. Bad Reichenhall on the German side is a well-known resort town, if you want that sort of thing.
I%26#39;d package the Salzkammergut into a nice excursion, maybe by car. Werfen has ice caves, but so does the Hallstadt area, Salt mines are in Bad Hallein, Bad Reichenhall, but also in Hallstadt and nearby Obertraun.
Check it all at www.salzkammergut.at

Thanks Matrose for the information. I think places around Salzburg are more interesting then the area itself so we are trying to search for accomodation on the suburb. We will consider your suggestion 10m. away from Salzburg.
By the way, we are thinking of visiting the swarovski in Innsbruck. Is it easily accessible by public transport??
Thanks once again.

Please let me know how many persons you are, so I have a better idea what to suggest.
Trip durations:
Ice caves would be a half day tour, may be combined with salt mines at Hallein and maybe also with Eagle%26#39;s nest (depends on the size of your group and the chance to get an own bus).
Hallstatt and Salzkammergut is another daytrip and can also be combined.
To see the Swarovski factory you should take the train from Salzburg to Innsbruck (apx. 2 hours), from there a shuttle service to Swarovsky is available. If you go to Innsbruck, I strongly recommend to plan it as a day trip and see some more things there!
Best regards
Wolfgang

Hi Elia,
I am doing Prague - CK - Salzburg also. Did you look into Lobo Shuttle to get from CK to Salzburg? It is only 3 hours and I 1100 CZK per person. It leaves at 9am from CK. I chose this because it seems much easier and less stressful than the train. Here is the link:

In Salzburg, we are staying at the Steinerhof for 60 euros/night.

While in Salzburg, we are taking a day trip to Hallstatt. It is a little more difficult with public transportation, but it is absolutely worth it! The ice caves are near there also.
Enjoy your trip!!

You should know there are guided tours to Hallststt as well and you can avoid the mess with the public transport in this area. Have a look at

Is that difficult to go to Hallstatt and the Ice Caves from Salzburg using public transportation? We are not into tours so we want to avoid them as much as possible.
What nice places can we go using buses and trains? We are going to be in Salzburg-Munich area 5 nights in early October.
Thanks
