Day Trip to Vienna by Train

Hi I am trying to calculate the cost of a day trip by tain, could an expert please help with this, I have found the train we want to get its OEC 541 that leaves Salzburg at 6.00am and return by EN 264 that leaves Vienna at 20.35 giving us quite a nice long day there. I dont quite know much this will be for a return journey just for 2, can anyone help please?

Thanks very much.

Also, recommendations where to start our sightseeing once we arrive?

The cost of a 2nd class return ticket for two is € 158,80. All tickets in Austria are flexible, you can take any train! Also no need to reserve a seat or so, just walk to the station, buy the ticket (ticket machine, ticket window, also possible on the net (but mind that online-tickets are not easily refundable) at oebb.at/pv/…index.jsp

I am not sure wether EN 264 (EuroNight Orient-Express Richtung: Strasbourg) is subject to a surcharge, at least there is an information about in the itinerary.

Probably better to contemplate the IC748 departing five minutes later.

I highly recommend the IC train that has been suggested. We did a day trip to Vienna from Salzburg last September. When we arrived we went down to the S-bahn and took the underground to Stefansdom. This is a good place to start sightseeing. In the afternoon we then took the train out to Schloss Schoenbrunn. This was fantastic and is on my list of places to revisit the next time we do a day trip.

Thank you all for your help,

Of course all EN trains can also be used by passengers only using them for short or medium distance journey. All are without any surcharge and none of them requires a seat reservation.

The night trains usually have some carriages which are reserved for daytime passengers at the end of the train.

Just catch the next train when you think it%26#39;s the best time to return to Salzburg.
