Hello, Hotel Weisse Taube is in the old city, close to attractions but in quite a quiet street. It always gets good reviews:

I can only recommend Crowne Plaza Hotel-The Pitter in the new town based on my experience. I went to Salzburg June 2008. For a double room I paid £85 per night. The bus no.2 from Salzburg airport will take you to the hotel bus stop Kongresshaus. You can check out my review for the hotel and photos.
The Mirabell Palace and Garden is a very short walk away. And also in the gardens is the Salzburger Barock-Museum.
The buses in Salzburg are very reliable, it will take you to the old town for the other sights in no time.

We stayed in the Pension Bergland in late May of this year. A real treasure! Excellent value. We had a large triple room with modern bath. It%26#39;s only 10 or so minutes walk away from Mirabel gardens and a few more minutes walk over the river to the Old town. The neighborhod was peaceful and we felt very safe walking at night. We would stay at the Pension/Hotel Bergland again.

I%26#39;d try here: http://members.aon.at/freisaal/
conveniently located, and for Salzburg, reasonable. Breakfast included.
