We are staying in mayrhofen in February 2009 and are arriving by Easyjet to Innsbruck. We are flying home from Stuttgart and may need to arrange our own transport if we can%26#39;t get a lift - any ideas - is it better to rent a car or is the train fairly hassle free? If we rent a car is there a company with branches in Mayrhofen and Stuttgart?

In the town of Mayrhoern - only 2 local car rental places-
one at thegas station at the lower end of town as you enter- may be an ESSO gas station-
another on the main bypass road at the Mazda dealer - I believe they are not affiliated with major firms .
In any event any major rental company would probably charge a very large drop off fee as you rent in one country and drop off in another. Makes cost much too high.
If making a driving transfer on a weekend - you will probably find very heavy traffic and stalls as least as far as the Munich area and beyond- no matter what route you take - no fun stress etc.
The train is probably best option - normally 2 easy changes - one in Jenbach at the end of the Ziller valley the other perhaps Munich- journey about 5 1/2 hours- sufficent time for each transfer
perhaps if you have not booked yet another airport to return is much better- Innsbruck- Salzburg-Munich
