Hello! I fly into Vienna at 20:40 on a Friday evening and need to get to my hotel on Bauernmarkt (first time in Vienna!). What is the best transport to take?
|||
You can opt for the following transportations:
Airport Bus to Schwedenplatz/Morzinplatz 6€
Airport Train Line (S2) to Wien-Mitte/Landstrasse, then subway line U3 to Stephansplatz 3.40€
Airport Express Train (CAT) to Wien-Mitte nonstop,
then subway line U3 to Stephansplatz 10.70€
For all connections visit:

Taxi: ~35€

Many thanks for that advice!

Do you buy one ticket at the Airport that automatically covers S2 and U3? I presume this is the same sort of system they have in Frankfurt - does it stand for Strassebahn and Unterbahn (or something like that)?

Like in most European cities a zonal system is in use.
S....S-Bahn (Urban Rail)
U....U-Bahn (Subway)
|||
I see. By the way - would it not be S7 rather than S2 from the airport to Wien-Mitte/Landstrasse?
|||
ÖBB has changed the train codes to prevent passenger to board the train going into the wrong direction.
Vienna %26gt; Airport: S7
Airport %26gt; Vienna: S2
