Niederau Assistance

Hi i am spending a week here with my partner during August 2008. I can not find a lot of information about what is open during the summer months. i understand that there are a couple of pubs/bars in the area and was wondering whether these would be open during the summer. What about supermarkets are there any open in the summer. I would also be grateful if someone could let me know whether they have an ATM or bank in the village. Also does anyone have a link to any bus time tables as i would like to do a few trips etc.

Are the cable cars also open during the summer.

Thanks in advance for any replies that can be given

The website for the Wildschoenau (Niederau and 3 other villages) at this link. It should answer alot of your questions. Austria has a short but quite busy summer season of July/August so I expect most local bars, restaurants etc will be open. At least some gondola/cable/chair lifts will be as this is part of their walking programme.Supermarkets will definately be open, although often not on Sunday. If the site doesn%26#39;t give you an answer, you could email the tourist office and call in to visit them when you arrive, the Austrian tourist offices are always very helpful.

Hi

We were in Neiderau in July 06, staying at the Sonnschien. This is definitely a winter resort - when we were there there were only a few of the cafes open, and a pizzeria type of place. There is a bank with an ATM in the centre of the village. Shopwise there was an outdoor wear/trinket shop, a corner shop, 2 supermarkets - one near the centre and a larger one on the road to Oberau. Both were very well stocked and reasonably priced.

One cable car is open which runs from the village centre - the summit is a popular spot for parasending and it%26#39;s fascinating to watch them. The top also has a nice cafe, a beautiful little chapel and several walks which start from there.

Transport wise - there is a local service which runs within the valley to Oberau and beyond, and also out of the valley to Worgl, from where you can get trains to all other regions. Bus timetables are available from hotel receptions, and at the Sonnschein the owner was good enough to print off a train timetable for us. The buses were extremely efficient, running dead on time.

Don%26#39;t know what sort of things you enjoy, but a couple of things we did which I would recommend -

Catch the bus to the gorge (can%26#39;t remember what it%26#39;s called). Walk through the gorge is spectacular - a couple of miles on a very well made track - no need for boots. Take a picnic as not much available.

Do the walk from the mountain top (no 20 I think) which goes through Penning - reasonably eay walk with a great pub in the middle.

Go on the free landtrain to the traditional Austrian entertainment which takes place one lunchtime each week in an outdoor bar up from the village (details of it are n all the hotels.) The entertainment itself is a bit naff - loads of people go so your packed in like sardines, but we stayed for a beer then left and walked back down to Neiderau and it was a lovely walk, along footpaths passing the farms and fields - took about 11/2 hours and all downhill.

Go and sit on the verandah at the Harfenwirt hotel with a beer or a glass of wine and watch the parasenders landing on the field just opposite - we sat there for hours - it was great fun watching the beginners!

If you want any more info just let me know!

We enjoyed a week in Niederau a couple of years ago. The cable car opens up a range of walks including links to Auffach and Oberau. The walk trhough the gorge (Kundel Klamm I think0 is pleasant - there is a road train which is not too exciting but saves part of the road walk.

I%26#39;d also strongly recommend a trip to Rattenberg a few stops on the rail line from Worgl. It is a beautiful old town with a castle and lots of bars - we%26#39;ve been twice (first time when we were staying in Myerhoffen)and really enjoyed it.

Also Kufstein is an easy trrain ride from Worgl and has a huge castle and pleasant town centre.

We are off to St Johann just a bit further along toards Salzburg on Wed and hoping the weather forecast improves - we were lucky when we went to Niederau in August as it only rained on last day so hope you have the same luck

It is very quiet on a night and I got fed up of the Zillertal beer which most of the hotels serve - there is one exception near the bottom the resort but can%26#39;t remember ts name

Have a good time
