Renting a chalet in Tirol

Hi

I am Dekinha from Brazil and I want to go together with my husband and 19 years son to Tirol in December for Xtmas.

We would love to stay in a quite place and travel around by car for sightseeing and ski for 10 days.

Any suggestions?

What about Leutasch or Bichlbach?

It can be a chalet, a flat.

It appears that you have already been doing some research as the places you mention , especilly Bichlbach as not as well known as some others in Austria.

For both places - best to have a car rental. Both an easy drive from Munich if you use that city as your gateway.

Bichlbach is a very small village. Today best known as the home town of an austrian woman ski world champion.

It is really 2 streets and a few accomodations- nothing fancy. One gas station and a few cafes. Not a tourist mecca - if you want quiet - this is it. Little for a 19 year old at night other than going to the nearby towns.

You will still see cows in the barn for the winter and quiet life.

The town completed a new combination chair and gondola lift last year, just north of the town and permits good skiing on the Bichlbach side of the mountain and permits skiing down into the next village of Berwang where you can find more lifts.

Generally good intermediate skiing with good snow conditions.

Not far away 10-15 minutes are various ski towns of Lermoos, Ehrwald and toward the Zugspitze- a combination ski pass is available - the Zugspitze area - soo a variety of skiing available.

North of Bichlbach- perhaps 15-20 kilometers is Reutte also some sking and just beyond the town of Füssen in Germany with the Ludwig castles.

Garmisch is about 35-40 minutes away.

Note - Bichlbach is next to a busy highway connecting germany with the Fernpass , a major access way into much of Tirol. This croad can get very busy.

for more info- www.bichlbach.at

one nice place to stay apartments- Gastehaus Wiesienruh

several aprtments and not expensive.

Leutasch is very near to Seefeld and just north of Innsbruck. Actually a valley with various small villages- very popular summer and winter. Very nice scenery .cross country skiing and very often many deer about .

many nice apartments availble -

A quiet area- but as Seefeld is very close you have all access to restaurants, nightlife shopping , spa etc.

Innsbruck an easy 20 minute ride.

The nice towns of Mittenwald and Garmisch a short drive north into Germany.

Seefeld has several areas for skiing -

but not an extra challenge.

Probably more activities - sleigh rides , ice skating indoor pool complex , more shops,

www.seefeld.at

this site will give much info and numerous accomodations too.

It just depends what you like most and what you most wish to see.

I have been to both places - normally stay in Berwang when visiting the area- by Bichlbach- enjoy both.

Except for Holidays not extra crowded.

UAU!!!

Thank you very much for you reply. It helped me a lot, specially considering my son (he will not like to be in a veeeeery quite place).

If you have time, please give me some tips about Viena (place to stay) and if it has a nice new years eve. We are tinking of driving to Viena for some days and then going to Praga (have you been there?).

Best regards

Dekinha

While an auto is really helpful in places like Sefeld area and Bichlbach- it is a liability in cities like Vienna and Prague. I would look to return the rental auto before your journey perhaps in Innsbruck or Salzburg.

Then easy and relaxing trian rides to Vienna and /or Prague.

This probably saves you money - no worries about traveling in bad weather and paying high rates to park the car.

Frequent train connections

During the holiday times you should book your hotels as early as possible - the cities will be full.

The center of Vienna hosts a giant and free ( except food and drink ) New Years party. Numerous Streets are closed to traffic and become a long and windy venue to celebrate.

Many squares are turned into stages for all types of music from waltz to Rock- kiosks sell all food and drink- Hundreds of thousands vist for this event.

Several formal Balls too if this interests you.

For hotels - so many best to provide a price range to assist in advice.

This is a good time to visit.

Thank you once again.

All the best
