Hello, we are looking at overnighting one night in Vienna (after Greece) then the following evening taking the night train non stop to Venice.
Is this feasible with children - I think the sleepers/ couchette have room for 6 - so by buying 6 tickets , would a family be able to book a sleeper in advance?
We just looking for the most comfortable options by night train.
Thanks for any input, and I did check previous postings, but could not find that information.

No idea how children deal with such a long ride. What if they cannot sleep properly?
What about flying with SkyEurope? Currently they offer great bargains starting at 1€/flight.

It is not my intention to change your mind, I just wanted to outline this option.

Mikey - many thanks.
It%26#39;s more for the train trip than convenience - I the overnight into Venice a good few years ago, and crossing the lagoon after an overnight left a great impression - something I was hoping to share with our family.
Also, we%26#39;re taking enough plane journeys this summer, so we wanted to avoid another.
We have two days to plan between Athens and Venice - and if it was feasible (I%26#39;ve been onto the SBB web site since this posting) we might book two 3 bed sleepers - if that is the best option?
Otherwise we might fly from Athens into another city for 2 nights, and take a shorted train trip into Venice.
However Vienna %26amp; the overnight is the most appealing (to us) if in any way practical.

Wll, if money doesn%26#39;t count take the more comfortable compartments wit beds!
|||
Mikey, I did not mean to infer that money does not count by my posting and apologies if that was your interpretation, I was merely hoping that someone might point us in the right direction regarding the best/most comfortable way to take this train route, given that we have decided not to take on any additional flights.
Specifically (if I had thought about it) would 2 sleepers be alot more comfortable than 1 couchette for a party of 6 - or are there other options.
(Perahps I should have been clearer (my typos on the last post would not have helped :) I%26#39;m sure the info is up there on the web, I will continue to furrow - thank you anyway.)
|||
Well, actually I did not suppose that you don%26#39;t care about money, it was just my recommendation. Check the prices and if they appear to be acceptable, then take the sleeper (Schlafwagen) instead of the couchette (Liegewagen).
Here is the website of ÖBB night trains to Italy:

Tickets can be booked here: https://ticket.oebb.at/bin/frame_ticket.pl…
(in German only but logical)
or call +43 5 1717 (ÖBB Customer Service Line)

Thank you - my German is quite rusty, so luckily a TA buddy has already given me a shortcut through that very useful site.
:)
Thanks again!

Just one other thing , if I book in the general Ringstrasse area will it be quite easy to navigate the city in a one night stayover? (We arrive mid afternoon, and will lleave the following evening.)
Thanks again, and I appreciate your welcome input.
|||
The %26quot;Ringstrasse%26quot; and the area therein is the best location you can be accommodated in.
Just bear in mind, aside from the location issue, that the night train you intend to take leaves from the WEST STATION, as Linz and Salzburg are in the itinerary either.

Thanks again Mikey, I will bear that in mind!
