Best village for mountain atmosphere?

Please suggest where we can stay for one night in the mountain area south of Salzburg where we will be delighted by the mountain village atmosphere?

We are staying 2 nights in Hallstatt, so a comparative town away from a lake would be good.

Any suggestions of accommodation would also be good. We are driving ourselves.

It%26#39;s not south but a little west. However, Reit im Winkl (just barely into Bavaria) is a wonderful treat and not overrun with tourists. The Wilde Kaiser massif will follow you once you head west from Berchtesgaden.

Hi,

%26quot;Delighted by the mountain village atmosphere%26quot;...I would also suggest Ramsau, Germany, less than 30 minutes west of Salzburg. We stayed in Ramsau in Oct. 2006 and Oct. 2007 at the Mayringerlehen and love it! Can%26#39;t wait to go back.

Another place we love (but didn%26#39;t stay at) is Zell am See. Although situated on a lake also, the mountain scenery is stunning.

Our recent pic%26#39;s can be seen at:
