which resort to choose for new year

Hi!

we were planing to go to ischgl for the new year from 30 december till 6 or 7 january.

but we have some problems with booking for this period in ischgl - they say they are fully booked :(

so now we are thinking of changing our destionation to some other place?

we want to find a nice charming resort with a big chance of snow in near year and good apres ski.

maybe somebody can give an advise?

all advises are wellcome :)

You try to find accomodations at perhaps the busiest time of the season.

Many places only accept reservations for extended stays. Often guests reserve for the next year as they leave after their stay.

Last season was a record vistor year for most places and many rebook quickly to be assured of a place.

If you look for something similar to Ischgl

try

St. Anton

Zurs

Lech

Obertauern

all at higher altitude - usually good snow and good apre ski

Perhaps talking with the tourist office can assist you in finding good places with availibility too.

Hi nastik5%26lt;

Some more suggestions... Soelden and the Oetz valley of Austria.

www.soelden.com

Just another suggestion... the Dolomites in Italy (Sud Tirol). The Dolomites are simply spectacular!

www.val-gardena.com/eng/

Any of the 3 villages in Val Gardena... Ortisei, St. Christina or Selva would be terrific! Val Gardena is about an hour to an hour and a half from Innsbruck, Austria.

Hope this helps.

hi vertical!

thank you for advises.

I have chosen Ischgl because I wanted to be 1. in a place with really good apres ski 2. with hight altitude because were are afraid that there could be no snow at the time we go at the low altitude resorts 3. to live close to the center and lifts not to use buses or cars.

so now I will try to find something at the resorts from your list.

I would defenetly chose St Anton from this list but I have been there several years ago. I liked it a lot, but I am not sure that I would like to go thered second time.

Lech seems to me to be resort for more older people ( we are around 25)

I dont know much about Zurs and Obertauern do they have good apres ski? But the issue is that we would like to avoid places crowed with very young people (16-18 yo). What do you think?

Also we are discusind Saalbach and Solden?

What will be the best?

Zurs is not the best for you.

I would recommend Obertauern- easy connections from Salzburg in about 1 hour.

This is a great place on high altitude - normally excelent snow conditions - great apre ski and nightlife.

the town is compact - basically one street you can walk or ski most everywhere. Even ski bridges across the street so no need to take ski off to reach other lifts.

A good ski circus with many hotels offering ski in / ski out.

the websites will show some of the huts and clubs - photos show a true picture-

much like Ischgl.

Numerous hotel choices - no real bad location in the town.

A favorite place of many from Vienna.

The resort voted best in Austria by readers of the %26quot; News %26quot; a big weekly magazine in Austria.

PGA60 - thank you. But I am not sure that Val Gardena will fit us in apres ski, I am afraid that it can be a bit boring to us ... Maybe I am mistaken?

we are thinking about livigno in Italy. What do you think about it?

|||

Hi Vertical!

we have sent about 60 request for acomondation in Obertauern. Ans still nobody has anything avalable from 30/12 tii 07/01 (:((

we got 2-3 offers from 03/01

so now we are thinking of trying to find something from 30/12 till 03/01 in another resort (but I cant imagine which resort to try - whee they can have acomandation for the new year eve) and then to move to obertauern from 03/01

or to change tickets to later dates :((( (we already have bought them to munich).

but we wanted so much to spend new year eve in austrian alps.

Not far from the road leading to Obertauern is the nice resort of Schladming.

Good skiing and night life-

Home to an annual mens world cup ski race and also in a few years , the world championships - thus it is recognized as a good place -

especially good id the Planai area- good lift circus and numerous ski huts for a rest, apre ski etc.

some huts Onkel willys and almrausch.

Town has a pedestrian only center - good variety of accomodations , restaurants etc. easy transfer to Obertauern- about 75 minutes south of salzburg.

look on the website for good info

Good Luck
