Can anyone recommend reasonably priced accommodation for two women (mid 60%26#39;s) wishing to spend 2 nights in Graz in early January 2009? We would prefer central and close to rail station as we will travel by train from Salzburg and then train to Budapest.

Directly in front of the train station you find these hotels:
Hotel Daniel

Hotel Ibis

Diectly in the city center with good tram connection to the station, but a bit more expensive:
Hotel Weitzer and Hotel Wiesler

Hotel Erzherzog Johann

Hi meadowbank, I cannot recommend a single hotel for that as I have personally not been there..but my cousin was on a tour on that side and she used a online guide to book the hotels there....have a look at http://www.sletoh.com/r213308.html which has a list for the hotels there and you can see the prices that they have and the places there.

I would rely on the good advice of Ulrike regarding hotels.
The other poster mysteriously has posted 14 times -always recommending the same hotel search website to look for hotels from Ireland to Ausria- strange ?

We stayed in the Hotel Feichtinger (www.hotel-feichtinger.at) in 2006. A nice clean modern hotel 15 mins from the Altstadt in Lendplatz. Double room rate is EUR98 inc breakfast. It is close to the modern %26#39;armadillo%26#39; art gallery and the island in the Mur. Graz is a small but pretty city and very walkable. I cant remember the proximity of the station but it would only be a short taxi ride in any event.
