We are going to be visiting my brother in Zurich, and we want to take a short trip to Salzburg to see the Sound of Music sights. It will be me, my husband, a 9 year old, a 5 year old, and a 76 year old grandmother. Finding family hotels in Europe can be difficult. Any ideas for hotels that might have bigger rooms... a family room for the 4 us and a single for grandma would be best.
Is it better generally to stay close to the train station or close to the sights in Salzburg?
If we drive is parking easy to find?
If we take the train how easy is it to get to the sights?
Is there a good Sound of Music tour? (Hokey, I know, but that will make the city more interesting and accessible for the kids).
Thanks!

Salzburg isn%26#39;t a large city, therefore it doesn%26#39;t really matter where to stay. The interesting part (old part of the town) is only a short bus ride away from the train station.
Parking is usually a nightmare in European cities, but I would either ask the hotel wether they can accomodate your car or park outside of the city center. But I would not drive to or in the city centre.

Look to the Haus Am Moos- a very nice place for families to stay - vareied accomodations in a quiet area - an easy bus ride into the old city in 10- 15 minutes.

The pension offers excelent and economical accomodations in a nice style - good breakfast - some restaurants nearby too. Great for families.
Read the reviews here on Trip Advisor - generally excelent.
Also just adjacent to the Old city sightseeing area is a very large underground parking garage-easy access and well signed makes parking easy.
A car is good to have in the area of salzburg with so much to see just outside of the city- mountain scenery, salt mines, ice caves, castles , the Lake region etc.
Salzburg is an easy drive from Zurich with some good mountain scenery on the way.

We had a decent 4 person room in Salzburg at the Hotel Bergland. It is in %26quot;new%26quot; Salzburg about 10 minutes walk from %26quot;old%26quot; town. It is a nice residential area with restaurants nearby.
It has on site free parking, though we arrived by train. It might be worth a taxi from the train station.
Nice folks and a decent breakfast spread.

Try Haus Reichl on Moosstrasse - a very friendly comfortable and nice B%26amp;B with an extremely charming hostess.

It is a ten minute drive from the city centre but is completely peaceful with breathtaking views.

Hi,
We are family of 5 traveling to Salzburg in early July. We are staying at the Goldene Ente in the old part of the city. They have an apartment for 5 people. I emailed them directly. I can let you know when I get back what the room was like. I am sure you can also book a single for grandma.
