Best way to get to Salzburg?

We (four adults) will be in St Johann next week, and hope to spend a day in Salzburg. We prefer to travel independently rather than book an excursion, so I need to know if there is a bus/train service, which you would recommend, and the approximate cost.

Can anyone help, please?

We%26#39;re actually in St Johann in Tirol next week and want to do the same trip!

From my research, you can get the 4012 bus from St Johann (~9:05) to Lofer where you change to the 260 bus to Salzburg and arrive 10:53. There is a return bus at 16:25 that gets back at 18:20.

For trains there is a direct train back from Salzburg that departs at 17:04 arriving 19:20.

Cheapest option would be the Einfach-Raus-Ticket where you would all travel for 28Euro, but you are limited to Regional Trains and must travel after 9am during the weekdays.

In case anyone%26#39;s interested, from memory, the single bus fare from St Johann to Lofer was 5.20 Euro and from Lofer to Salzburg 7.10 Euro. Bus left at 9am and we arrived at about 11am. Got the direct train back at 17:04 with an Einfach Raus ticket, getting the bus at 16:25 would likely have been quite a bit quicker but it gave us an extra half hour in Salzburg which was useful.
