We are really keen on taking the hydrofoil but are travelling on October 05, the last day of hydrofoil operation, so we are guessing that the chance of the service being cancelled due to lack of water in the Danube may be high. After reading the forums, we are now considering travelling from Budapest to Bratislava by train and then from Bratislava to Vienna by Twin Cityliners. Is it worth changing from train to boat? Is the train station near the boat terminal? As we have visited Vienna before, we are staying in Vienna in transit to Slovenia rather than to sightsee, so are quite happy to enjoy a slow trip down the Danube. Which option should we pursue?

First of all it would have been better to reply to your own thread in order to bring it back to the top....
The train stations in Bratislava are neither near nor far away from the boat terminal. You would need to take a taxi or public bus.
In my opinion it is NOT worth to do the train/boat combo, as it boosts the total travelling time in conjunction with a unnecessary transfer and probably not fulfilled expectations. And why should the water level issue be better in Austria during this period?
There are numerous daily trains from Budapest to Vienna, it would be waste of time to not use them.
If you wanna take a trip on a danube vessel, you can tour the Wachau Region between Melk and Krems/Donau.

Thank you for your reply. I thought we would catch the Twin Cityliner from Bratislava. As it runs all year round, I presumed it didn%26#39;t need as much water as the hydrofoil, which was why we were going for that option. Motoring down the Danube rather than rattling around in a train sounds so much more enticing, but from what you are saying, it appears to be impractical. Thanks.

The Twin City Liner discontinues service on November 2nd. Thereaftr only on weekends and public holiday until mid december.

On the 5th of October you can thus use the boat.

Thank you - we are going to wait until we get to Budapest on Oct 2 and make the decision then. Hopefully we%26#39;ll be able to book onto some form of transport! thanks for your help.

Trains can never sell out... tickets are flexible and usually valid on any train within some days.

There are six of us traveling from Vienna to Budapest and considered taking the hydrofoil versus the train. I have heard that the hydrofoil is great because of the scenery and the view. The negatives are - it takes longer 5.5 hours vs 3hr, its noisy, you can%26#39;t get fresh air, not as roomy or comfortable as the train - assuming we would go first class on the train. Anyone who has done this - do these comments sound accurate? Can you add any pros or cons? Thanks.
