Salzburg and Bad Gastein

Hi to everyone! For this summer holidays I want to have an Austrian experience...and I%26#39;ve choosen Bad Gastein as home-base. Now, I would to visit Salzburg, but I don%26#39;t know if this is good enough for a day-trip or at least a two night stay is required...what do you think?

Thanks in advance!

You can do the main stuff in Salzburg in one day, but more time is always more enjoyable! As Bad Gastein is only 1h30min apart from Salzburg by train, you can select the first and the last train to maximize your stay in Mozart%26#39;s birthplace. If you still feel you have missed something, you can do it again a few days later.

Many thanks for your reply! So do you think that are more recommendable two separate stays both in Bad Gastein and in Salzburg?

And I would also visit the village of Hallstatt...from which of these two towns is easier reaching Hallstatt?

|||

Hallstatt is easier to reach from Salzburg, but even from there it taks more than two hours.

Why do you intend to stay in Bad Gastein? What are your further intentions?

|||

I would to stay in Bad Gastein because I love hiking, nord walking and sightseeing lovely alpine towns. My first intention was using this town as home base to visit also Salzburg, but since you%26#39;ve told that is more enjoyable staying also in the city, I%26#39;ve opted for a combined stay in Salzburg (4 days) and then in Bad Gastein (6 days).

Do you think this is the best solution or can you tell me a better travel plan...and is Bad Gastein a good place? Or a Tyrolean village is better to spend holidays?

Bad Gastein is a great place often visited by the emperor. Frankly I don%26#39;t know how good the hiking trails and stuff are in Bad Gastein. I was there many years ago for a skiing trip. But you would not be disappointed for sure. Tyrol is very nice either-there is not one perfect place that matches all expectations.

Furthermore, I did not say that a stay in Salzburg is a must. In my opinion your stated time distribution sounds great. A few days in the city and then pure nature.

Many thanks for your great help!

Bad Gastein is especially famous for skiing in winter and for its thermal spa.

There are more scenic villages and towns in the Austrian Alps that I would prefer like - especially those located at a lake so you could combine Hiking and swimming:

- St. Wolfgang or St. Gilgen at lake Wolfgangsee

- Zell am See

- the area of lake Achensee in the Tyrol

Thanks for your replies...Wolfgangsee seems like a great destination, also if I would prefer to stay in Bad Gastein.
