We will be traveling between Vienna, Prague, Budapest and back to Vienna in June. I would like to know what is the best way to purchase train tickets. Can I buy them all at once when I get to Vienna (arriving by plane.) If so, where in Vienna should I purchase, rail station or through my hotel? Or do I need to purchase immediately prior to boarding in each city? Thanks in advance.

For travel from Budapest to Vienna, buy tickets at Budapest, its cheaper. For Travel to Prague from Vienna, use Eurolines bus. Its almost half the cost of using train from Vienna to Prague. Just be careful at the bus station in Prague (Florenc Bahn.), it isn%26#39;t in the best area so be on your guard.

Buy the ticket at every station you depart from as this is the easiest way. Czech trains between Vienna and Prague require seat reservation which is sold together with the train ticket. If you wanna be fully sure you can do it a few days before at every (larger) station in Vienna. Of course Südbahnhof, but also Wien-Nord (by Prater), Wien-Westbahnhof or Wien-Meidling. Don%26#39;t worry, train travel is a breeze here and has a fully different meaning. Normally trains cannot be sold out (with a few exceptions)

Even if the bus might be cheaper, I%26#39;d use the train from Vienna to Prague or viceversa.
It is much more comfortable, reliable, fast and gives you much more flexibility as there are so many trains every day.
In general, night trains should be booked well in advance, especially if you want to travel in a sleeper. Usually no problem to get a couchette or regular seat just minutes before departure.
