Can someone recommend a moderately priced establishment near the Stephansdom? Music would be a plus, or a garden setting.

these are sister restaurants both good food and fair prices.
Hopferl just on Naglergasse outdoor dining in a pedsetrian walkway.
Good midday specials.

Gigerl - considers itself a city heurigen- food is Ok

Listen to Vertical! We did and ate at Hopferl -- twice. It was surprisingly good and entertaining, people watching on Naglergasse. Good mushroom dishes.
We also love Figlmueller (not sure of the spelling). Touristy, yes, but I%26#39;ve loved it since dining there many, many years ago. Known for their schnitzels, yet should also be noted for their delicious salads.

I think the website is
Figlmüllers is a Vienna institution- featured in most every tourist book. Near to Stephansdom.
I even go in about 1 or 2 times a year- more for the potato salad( the best in Vienna in my opinion.) and the quick service when you need to eat quickly and get someplace. But it is not cheap.
The schnitzel is said to be 250 gram. Good but some places in Vienna equal or better to me.
The original place in the small alley just off Wollzeile.
The newer 2nd place is on Bäckerstrasse just around the corner- much bigger - less conjested- you can sit at your own table without needing to share it with others and normally no waiting.
