Vienna music

This question is for Vertical. Thanks vertical for responding to my initial query which was sent to you outside of this forum. I think now I should post it so others may benefit possibly from this discussion.

My dates for Vienna is not fixed because I want to know which dates I need to be there for the concerts. I will be flying into Prague on the 23rd of June and I have until the 3rd of July to fly from Prague back to US. I plan to spend 3 days or so in Buadapest, Vienna and the rest in Prague. I was thinking of going to Vienna 27, 28 and 29 because there is a Mozart Requiem in Karlskirche (Church of St. Charles?) which I would love to go. However, my first question is, is it worthwhile going to this at this venue? I wanted to go to St. Stephens for it but the performance is not till July 6 and I cannot be there then. Vienna Boys Choir does not perform during the time of my stay so I guess I%26#39;ll just have to listen to them in the Sunday Mass on the 28th. There is also a Wienr Mozart Orchestral Concert on th 30th that I thought maybe I can catch also. There appears to be a great concert in front of Schonbraum by Lang Lang, Zubin Mehta and the Philharmonic but the tickets are way too expesnive (over 250 Euros for the best seats). Your comment regarding the soccer match alarms me. When are the dates they will be there? Did you say the Requiem will not be on?

Since it is a long train ride from Budapest back to Prague, I am thinking of just flying the whole way between Prague, Vienna, Budapest and then back to Prague - this way I don%26#39;t have to endure a 7 - 8 hour train ride between Budapest and Prague. Any comments you have about that (other than obviously it%26#39;s more expensive than going by train)?

Thank you so much and I am so glad there is someone like you so knowledgeable about all aspects of Vienna on the tripadvisor forum.

Schonbrunn concert should be good - prices start from just more than 100 euro. A small temporary arena made - so no really bad seats.

The Mozart Requiem is played most Saturday evenings in the summer at the Karlskirche on Karlsplatz- just off the Ringstrasse and not far from the State Opera.

The Church is worth a visit just to itself.

I have never been to the Requiem there - only know that the Orchestra is relatively new- perhaps 2-3 years.

In general most Church concerts in the city maintain good standard. I would take a chance and attend.

If you refer to the Mozart Orchestra concert at the Musikverein- not one of my favorites.

These concerts are directed directly to tourists same program every night I think. I could not maintain enthusiasm if i was a member of the orchestra and playing the exact same things somany times every month in my costume.

If you plann to visit 27-30 June - I hope that you already have hotel reservations - the city is %26quot; sold Out %26quot; according to propaganda.

If not perhaps you should consider Prague to Budapest by plane - then make Vienna your later stop from Budapest by train ( less than 3 hours ) and miss the euro mess.

Thanks for your response. I guess I will go to Prague and Budapest first as you had suggested, and save Vienna for the last three days of June 30, July 1 and 2, but I would miss the Requiem, the Sunday mass with the Vienna Boys Choir, and I don%26#39;t know if there is anything else worthwhile going to as far as concerts are concerned. Is there any performance you know about those days which is worth going to?

Only you can decide what you wish to do with your time schedule- I assume that you do not have hotel reservations thus the ability to have a flexible schedule- check for rooms availability - this could be a problem during this period as mentioned before .

Thank you for your detailed input. Is there a website where you retrieved the info for me regarding the music performances available?

Thank you so much for the info on the website. I have actually decided finally to skip Vienna this time because of the soccer situation. I have decided to go to Istanbul instead after Prague and Budapest and save Vienna for another time when I can enjoy the city and the music beter.
