accomodations in Vienna during the world cup football

Hi, I%26#39;m a single mom traveling with three teenage kids (13, 17, 20) and we will be in Vienna on June 28, 29, 30th, departing on July 1st. I have found it extremely difficult to find reasonable accommadations, everything is booked. I finally got an apartment for 243 euros, but feel this is way outside my budget. Could you give me any suggestions of places to stay that may be on the outskirts of Vienna, but convenient enough to get public transportation into the city and to and from the airport? I appreciate any advise you may have

Thank you,

Mancala

I found one for 480€ total (2 rooms for three nights incl. breakfast) in the lovely city of BADEN.

www.motel-baden.at

Although it is named MOTEL BADEN, it is not comparable with the American ones. Have a look at their website - it looks pretty new and solid! Location a few hundred meters to the train station of Baden, from where you can take a Regional Train (Train with limited stops) to Vienna. Depending on the address you wanna get to it takes at least 30 minutes. For train times please visit this website

Baden also features an airport coach - for departure times visit the same website!

Mikey,

Thank you so much. Motel Baden looks great! Also thank you for the links for bus and train. My new question is, can you suggest where to get a good map of the train system that would help me to get my bearings?

Also is there a reasonable option of a multi-day train ticket (3 days) for my family of four to get in and out of Vienna or should I pay for trains as I go!

Thanks again for all your help!

There are no passes for the section on ÖBB outside Vienna. The only money-saving tip I can give you is to purchase a pass for Vienna Public Transport (Wiener Linien) which grants unlimited rides within the city (=Zone 100). If in possession of such a pass for Vienna, your train ticket from Baden to Vienna only needs to be issued until the zone border station, which is WIEN-LIESING.

72h Pass for Vienna: 13.60€

Your youngest rides free in Vienna because of the summer holidays which commence at 28th of June (maximium age 15)

Single Ride from Baden to Vienna (Wien-Liesing!): 3.40€ (=2*1.70€) for persons older than 14

1.80€ for your youngest

Just some additional advice:

- Don%26#39;t take the (blue) tram that originates and terminates in Baden to/from Vienna-Opera House as it takes really long and the scenery along is boring.

-Upon arrival at Vienna Airport: if you see that you won%26#39;t make it to the Bus heading for Baden, take the S-Bahn (local rail line) to Wien-Rennweg, where you can transfer to the regional train line serving Baden and beyond.

Another one I forgot to mention as I am confused:

Regional Trains (code: R or REX) to/from Baden depart two times each hour (Baden: 24 and 54 past the hour). I know that because I regularly travel to Baden.

Try to preplan your activities in order to reach these trains, as the others (code: S) call at every station making the trip unnecessarily longer. R-Trains are airconditioned while the S-Bahn not always.

Much closer to Vienna are 2 towns with good accomodations and easy quick connections to Vienna.

Klosterneuburg

many choices of varied accomodations - many near to the fre

SORRY the message posts before completion.

Klosterneuburg very interesting itsalf with beautiful Chirch - numerous restaurants very interesting.

Mödling

www.moedling.at

also a nice town quick connections to Vienna in a short time -

Look at these places and save much commuting and probably as good or better accomodations - from Pensions- hotels - apartments.

Mödling is only 6 train minutes apart from Baden, so I cannot see the big time saving. Furthermore, Klosterneuburg is not decisively closer to Vienna in terms of public transportation. But this highly depends on where you wanna go to in Vienna! Taking the Vienna State Opera as a common target, it takes at least 30 minutes from both towns.

As there were no affordable accomodations in Vienna due to the soccer finals, Baden is a bargain also providing good and fast transportation to Vienna!

Before Baden is quickly declined, availability in the mentioned alternative towns should be checked to ensure a reasonable accomodation price. This is the reason why I recommended Baden....

|||

I%26#39;m probably biased as my family live in Mödling, but I think some S-bahn trains terminate there so it possibly has more frequent connections than Baden.

Any of the three towns would be good bases outside Vienna, but Mancala may have to fire off a few emails soon to various hotels/apartments as not many of them in this price range have online booking.

|||

Well, I am not a resident of Baden.

As Mancala will be here on the soccer final weekend, it is really hard to find an affordable hotel. I tried it on my own using different reservation websites and all displayed very, very limited vacancies for ridicolous prices. Only the recommended one still had rooms for a decent price. I am convinced that there were various smaller hotels/pensions not connected to a worldwide reservation system, but before I sit hours in front of the PC to investigate their availability I take the one I can firmly book and accept the 6 minutes more on the train.

You are right - there are trains terminating in Mödling. Nevertheless I recommend to take the R-Train just because the double-decker cars are airconditioned and more comfortable.
