Easy Heuriger experience

Hi

We will be visiting Vienna for the 1st time and would like to experience a heuriger however some of the small towns seem confusing to get to. Can someone suggest a good Heuriger perhaps in Grinsling which seems to be the easiest to get to?

Thanks

The heurigers in the outer districts of Vienna are actually very easy to reach via public transport .

You refer to the area of Grinzing - just take streetcar#38 to the end station from the stop Schottentor on the Ringstrasse in the city center.

This streetcar is found on the lower level.

The trip 25 minutes perhaps.

Many places just walk along the street left or right after exiting on to the street from the streetcar. - very touristy.

Better in my opinion- Nussdorf- take the streetcar # D - you will find it along parts of the Ringstrasse . It also stops at Schottentor stop on the street level.

Again 20-25 minutes to the end station - just walk uphill about 100 meters and you will see several places on left side.

Best in my opinion

Schübel Auer- with a very nice and usually cool garden good food and wine.

www.schuebel-auer.at

sorry in german but you should be able to easily understand.

Also places in Neustift am Walde.

Streetcar#38 to bus 35 A

then onward to Neustift .

good places can be found immediately next to the bus stop-

Fuglgassl Huber among others - nice garden

www.fuhrgasslhuber.at

all are easily reachable by taxi 12-15 euro probably from city center.

Thanks so much. We were planning on going on a Sunday evening. I know things in Europe are sometimes closed on Sundays so do you think we should try for another day?

Thanks

This might be true, but gastronomy is widely available with the exception of some top restaurants, which don%26#39;t wanna cook on weekends. I%26#39;d really surprised if a Heuriger is closed on a Sunday!

Sunday is the busiest day for most restaurants!

In Europe (or Austria) we close the shops and malls on Sundays, but almost all other entertainment sites are opened!

You must pick only certain places if you wish to go on Sundays.

Example Schuebel-Auer is normally closed Sundays and also Mondays except for special Sundays when they have had a Music Brunch in the Garden.

Most places will be open however.

Euhrgassl-Huber is open 7 days. www.fuhrgassl-huber.at - I missed the small dash on the prior post.

The sister Hauerkuchl immediately adjacent is open Wednesday - Sunday and is closed Monday and Tuesdays.

Quite often places are more crowded Sunday afternoons - later in the day more quiet.

I prefer Hauerkuchl - a nicer outdoor garden with trees and umbrellas to shade from the sun and the ability to get food via the buffet or by the menu.

But in both Nussdorf and Neustift enough places are open to insure a nice visit.

Many places in Grinzing open 7 days.

- but as mentioned many more tourists.

Just a note - in the city center you will find many better, more expensive restaurants closed on Sundays- mostly those catering to busines people etc.

but as with the heurigers enough are open to offer good choices.
