eating in St. Wolfgang

I would like some advice on eating out. My wife is a strict vegetarian and I do not eat beef, therefore where do you advise to eat in St. Wolfgang.

Many thanks!

The Austrian cuisine has many non-meat main dishes, partly because of the Catholic tradition, but also in part because country life precluded eating costly meat every day.

You may not find these dishes separately listed in a menu, so getting to know the cuisine would help. Not all these dishes are sweetened - I just have to consider the various Schmarren baked casseroles or egg-heavy meals.

If there is no English translation for a given dish, then you may have to ask %26quot;fleischlos?%26#39; Be aware, though, that under the circumstances fish and sausage may be interpreted as not being %26#39;meat%26#39;, so %26#39;Vegetarier%26#39; may be the appellation you have to learn.

Thanks for your help.

I don%26#39;t know how the discussion takes/took place abroad, but here the %26quot;MEAT-FISH%26quot; issue is always funny to talk about. I have never understood that nowadays fish is regarded as non-meat as still insisted by the majority vegetarians.

Please take the advice I gave you in the Hallstatt forum. You won%26#39;t find a vegetarian restaurant in St. Wolfgang as it is small, but all menues contain dishes not based on meat. Just ask for one if there is no translation to English. Most restaurants offer great soups and salads and furthermore vegetable dishes. It is clear that you won%26#39;t have the selection of a vegetarian restaurant but you won%26#39;t starve!
