Local Experts:
My wife and I are planning on taking a night train from Venice to Salzburg. The result is arriving at Salzburg...at 4:05 AM.
What can we do? Hang out at the station until day break? Are there such things as 24-hr cafes? Should we just leave on a day train from Venice?
Thoughts?
Thanking you in advance,
GBT

I wouldn%26#39;t take the night train. By the time you manage to fall asleep (and that is if you%26#39;re a good sleeper - I%26#39;ve never managed) you%26#39;ll be in Salzburg. You%26#39;ll be extremely tired and there will be nothing to do there for at least 3 hours. In the state you%26#39;ll probably be in, even the rest of the day might not be exactly enjoyable. In the end, the night train might cost you an enjoyable day instead of saving a few hours of day-time.
If you take the day-train, you%26#39;ll be able to enjoy the mountain-scenery along the track.

As the trip on a day train takes more than 6 hours, it is pretty tempting to contemplate the night train connection. If you can manage to get some sleep or have experience on that, then take the night train.
In my opinion 4am is not that bad. If you do this trip soon, you will have daylight a few moments after arrival in Salzburg. No idea wether a restaurant or snack booth is opened at 4am, but at 5:30am you should get a hot coffee as the morning rush hour commences. Later you could proceed to the central part which will still be very calm.
