i have been told about a traditional marching band that plays in the streets on the first saturday of each month.have seen a photo but unable to find any information. can anyone provide me with info regardinf the band thankyou

You probably refer to the Hoch and Deutschmeister Band that performs Saturday mornings by the Hofburg Palace. Normally every saturday morning in the summer.
They have re created a tradition that dates to the changing of the guard at the Hofburg.
They usually begin about 10.45 on Michaelerplatz , then march through the gate into the courtyard of the Hofburg and play for 40- 50 minutes.
They wear costumes of the Imperial time in most all detail.
They also play instruments especially designed to project the music a greater distance as in former times- hihigher pitch I think.
Good music , great photo opportunity.
Normally a good crowd to watch this - no cost.
