Brief trip report & thanks to all

Arrived at airport to pick up car, nice small functional airport with good hire car pick-up facilities.

Car Hire Top Tip:

Holiday Autos, part of last min .com. These guys are cheap but very efficient, second time I%26#39;ve used them in Europe, you have to pay in advance but you can choose the car co of your choice. We had Europcar as have used previously and not disappointed. We had a VW Passat Estate, 5k on the clock and 40% cheaper than booking direct at the airport - can%26#39;t recommend it enough!

Loved Salzburg, great views and architecture. Small but big enough to be interesting. Stayed in Weiss Taube Hotel (Thanks Roley %26amp; Liz) good choice. Parking no great hassle. Clean, friendly, perfect position. Nice served buffet breakfast. No complaints.

Ate at the gastro garden of Steinbrau, excellent food, wine and ambience. A tad expensive but not bad.

Our favourite turned out to be Stienbrau terrace garden below the fortress. The terrace rooftop view and good food and prices served us twice.

There was a Euro 20008 match on the second evening, the fan zone well behaved, not too noisey. There were fans around but I can%26#39;t say it botheed us, the town restaurants were (I think) quieter than usual as a result of non-footy fans staying away. The only negative was litter in one of the main streets near Mc Donalds. Say no more!! :-)

Overall felling. Glad we came, we enjoyed and remember a clean, beautiful city with very friendly local people.

On to Vienna via Wachau Valley and will report on that forum.

Thanks again to all who assisted my planning, Ulrike,

Roley, Liz and others, sorry if I%26#39;ve forgotten your names.

Best regards

P.S.

error: The place below the fortress is the Stieglkeller garden.

Hi Stoofer

Did you book your hire car through lastminute.com? or can you book through Holiday Autos direct?

|||

Holiday Autos direct.

Best method:

Pull up their automatic quotes, find what type of car and price you want, then telephone them at your local country and negotiate what car hire company you want. They have all the main ones available with offices next to each other, I just trust Europcar from past experience.
