Some Austria Questions... I need the truth?

Ok...

1. Is a day trip from Vienna to Bratislava actually a good day out???

2. Is it worth going to see the Spannish Riding School practice sessions or is the view poor and is there too many people all jockeying for a glimpse?

3. What is the best pub in Innsbruck to go for a good night out? Looking for good atmosphere and some live music possibly.

4. Appart from Museums and Culture what else is there to do in Vienna?

5. What is the best shopping area in Vienna?

6. What is your personal fav place in Vienna and why?

7. What are the best tacky austrian tourist gifts to bring back home? You know the ones you give to people deliberately knowing they are horrid... but you know they get them back out when you are visiting.

8. Is there places in Innsbruck or Vienna to avoid at night?

9. Are displays of public affection accepted such as in Scandinavia or is it all very conservative?

10. What is the one attraction in Vienna that everyone says visit... but you think... no don%26#39;t bother!

So many questions, so less time... :-)

ad 1) Bratislava%26#39;s centre is a gem!

ad 2) I have never heard any complaints

ad 4) Too general!

ad 5) Mariahilfer Strasse/Graben, Kohlmarkt/Donauzentrum

ad 6) There ARE so MANY great places in Vienna!

ad 7) Everything related to Mozart/mountains etc.

ad 8) Vienna is a pronouncedly safe city! I%26#39;d avoid the passage (a pedestrian tunnel linking Resselpark with State Opera) at Karlsplatz underground station (junkies etc.) and the area around Railway Station South (homeless, crazy immigrants etc.)

ad 9) Austria is mostly liberal compared to the UK/USA.

1. Is a day trip from Vienna to Bratislava actually a good day out???

I would say yes, only if you take the fastboat TwinCityLiner. The boat trip is nice. Bratislava is quite nice, but nothing special and very small - you could see everything within half a day.

If you have enough time for Vienna itself (4-5 days) then a daytrip would be nice, otherwise I would stay in Vienna.

2. Is it worth going to see the Spannish Riding School practice sessions or is the view poor and is there too many people all jockeying for a glimpse?

Have never been at the exercise so cannot comment on this.

3. What is the best pub in Innsbruck to go for a good night out? Looking for good atmosphere and some live music possibly.

I do not know any pubs there, but lounge bars, like the %26quot;360 Grad%26quot; - it offers a nice view as well.

4. Appart from Museums and Culture what else is there to do in Vienna?

Nice shops, nice cafes, bars and restaurants, ...

5. What is the best shopping area in Vienna?

The top labels are in the 1st district at Kohlmarkt and Graben.

In Mariahilferstrasse in the 6th district you will find the big chains like H6M. Peek%26amp;Cloppenburg, ...

In the 7th district and the 4th district you will find small cool shops.

6. What is your personal fav place in Vienna and why?

Do you mean outside (culutral site..) or a cafe, restaurant?

7. What are the best tacky austrian tourist gifts to bring back home? You know the ones you give to people deliberately knowing they are horrid... but you know they get them back out when you are visiting.

8. Is there places in Innsbruck or Vienna to avoid at night?

Both cities are very safe.

In Vienna you cannot go wrong with the inner districts. I travel alone on the subway at night as a woman.

Just avoid parks at night and some of the outer parts, like behind the train station, etc.

9. Are displays of public affection accepted such as in Scandinavia or is it all very conservative?

The same as in most other European countries.

10. What is the one attraction in Vienna that everyone says visit... but you think... no don%26#39;t bother!
